Counselling provides a safe and confidential environment in which to explore and make sense of your life. It can help bring about change and resolve specific problems. It can also help you make decisions and deal with many other issues affecting your emotional and mental well-being.
The aim of the counsellor, of course, is to help you and they can do this in many different ways. They may ‘just’ listen, as speaking out loud can often help put your thoughts in order. The counsellor will help you to explore your options but will not advise or tell you what to do – you will be left to make your own choices.
Counselling may be for a few weeks or on an ongoing basis for several months or years.
