Thursday Evening Yin Yoga with Carole Riggs
18th July | 7:30 pm - 8:45 pm£10
Yin yoga allows us to enter into a deep state of relaxation and release.
It is a still practice which cultivates a deep sense of awareness and release through both body and mind.
Physically the focus is on the connective tissues in the body, primarily fascia and ligaments. It opens the joints and increases flexibility and mobility.
The healing postures are held for 3 -5 minutes opening and releasing the connective tissues around the joints allowing a deep opening stretch creating a feeling of spaciousness in the body.
Melting into the stretch allows a deep sense of calm peace to enter both body and mind. It is a mindfulness meditation practice, you are asked to come into the pose to your comfortable edge with muscles relaxed, to be still and to watch.
Yin yoga is learning to be with what is happening in the body in the present moment, without reacting to what is arising. By practising watching on the mat and not reacting, we can learn to take this practice off the mat and into our world.
Yin is the perfect antidote to more dynamic practices, it is vital we have both yin and yang elements in all areas of our lives.
At every stage of life in this busy and stressful world we need to find opportunities for stillness, to observe an honour our bodies with gentle awareness and as we age we need to offer our body the opportunity of lengthening and opening to counteract the contraction which can naturally begin to occur.
This class is suitable for all.
